While Tottenham sweated their way to a third-round victory over Coventry City in the Carabao Cup this week, the UEFA Champions League kicked off.
Among the many former Spurs players playing in the tournament was the Lilywhites’ beloved homegrown player, Harry Kane.
And the veteran English did not disappoint.
Harry Kane shines during opening Champions League week, makes Team of the Week
Harry Kane shone at Europe’s biggest stage once again with his performance on the opening day of the revamped UEFA Champions League season.
The former Tottenham captain scored four goals for Bayern in their opening-day fixture against Dinamo Zagreb, helping them to a record score line of 9-2.
Kane’s poker earned him a spot on the official UCL team of the week for the first gameweek, presented by Sofascore.
The England captain already has nine goals and three assists from first five games this season across all club competitions.
Up next for Kane and Co is an away fixture at Werder Bremen this Saturday.
Kane may win, but Daniel Levy won
Whether he wins any team trophy or not, Harry Kane is set to go down in football’s history books as one of the greatest-ever forward to have ever graced the sport.
While he goes about hunting that elusive trophy, however, we must throw some light on the person that has already won within the context of Kane and Tottenham, Daniel Levy.
After all, the Spurs chaiman managed to get all the leverage by convincing Kane to sign a six-year contract extension in 2018, effectively handing himself all the cards when Kane wanted to leave in 2021, and then managing to get an almost three-figure sum for in the last year of his contract by a club otherwise known to be very thoughtful when spending big.
