Tottenham Hotspur have been in safe hands with Guglielmo Vicario between the woodwork’s as the Italian has been a successful successor to former club captain and legend Hugo Lloris. He has come into the back line and added calmness in the first phase of build-up play as the Lilywhites rely highly on him to dictate the start of sequences.
The Italian goalkeeper has established himself as one of the better players with the gloves in the English top tier following his move to White Hart Lane. The 27-year-old signed for Tottenham from Serie A side Empoli in a £17 million deal, which looks like a bargain in retrospect.
The player has been subject to massive advancements in the goalkeeping department at Spurs; however, Guglielmo Vicario recently faced an abundance of criticism in the past few weeks owing to his faulty presence in dead ball situations. Many teams have tried to take advantage of that, and Spurs North London rivals successfully did so last weekend.
While he was slammed in media for that, Vicario has shown a lot of resilience between the sticks and has been an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs project.
AC Milan joins race for Vicario
However, that could all change as clubs from his home country have started looking Guglielmo Vicario’s way for a possible transfer. While Inter Milan already has established links with a move for the 27-year-old, their stadium-sharing neighbours, AC Milan, have joined the race for the Spurs goalkeeper’s signature, per Milan Live.
AC Milan’s first-choice goalie Mike Maignan has had his fair share of injury concerns, with the latest of them coming in their UEFA Champions League fixture against Liverpool at San Siro. This has forced Milan‘s hands into looking for a new goalkeeper, and they have landed on the Spurs keeper as one of the targets.
We have seen Italian players’s preference to play in their home country, and Milan-based clubs could bag on similar preference to lure Vicario away from White Hart Lane.
