It wasn’t just the overall performance against Coventry City in the third round of the Carabao Cup earlier this week that was a matter of concern for Tottenham and their fanbase.
The Lilywhites were handed a fresh injury blow very early in the game as new signing Wilson Odobert went off injured.
Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed the fans’ worst fears over the Frenchman.
Ange Postecoglou provides Wilson Odobert injury update
Ahead of his side’s home game against Brentford, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Wilson Odobert had sustained a not-insignificant injury and would be out for a while.
“[In terms of] Wilson, it doesn’t look good. We’re still waiting for it to settle down to get all the information but he’ll definitely be out for the next period. It’s his hamstring.”
Postecoglou on Odobert, as quoted by the in-house Spurs media team.
The French forward started for Spurs in the midweek game against Coventry but had to be taken off in the 18th minute because of a hamstring issue.
The 19-year-old moved to Spurs earlier this summer on an initial £25m deal from Burnley, having signed a £25k-per-week contract set to run until June 2029.
Worrying times
Spurs getting another injury on the forward front is indeed worrying, especially given their record signing Dominic Solanke is yet to get going.
What also needs to be kept in mind is that Postecoglou’s demand for persistent intensity, coupled with the more hectic schedule Spurs have this season owing to Europa League football, is not going to make things any easier over the next months.
Spurs need to be very careful here.
