Tottenham Hotspur had an objective to sign a marquee striker in the summer transfer window, and they did exactly so when Daniel Levy splashed £65m to bring Dominic Solanke to White Hart Lane from Bournemouth. While the North Londoners signing Solanke would resolve the Harry Kane dynamic in the forward line, the Lilywhites are still left without a backup striker to the 27-year-old as current understudy, Richarlison, has been suffering consistent spells on the sidelines.
With the Brazilian international suffering persistent injuries, the officials at Hotspur Way are growing frustrated and contemplating a possible move to bring another player to play his role on the Spurs roster.
Spurs eye Calvert-Lewin as backup striker
The North Londoners have been subject to surprise links with Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a move in the upcoming summer transfer window. The fact that his contract with the Merseyside Blues concludes at the end of the ongoing campaign makes him a more viable option, as the 27-year-old wouldn’t require a viable investment upfront.
Tottenham have been considering a move to bring him to White Hart Lane to compete with Dominic Solanke and possibly help Daniel Levy to move on from Richarlison just two years since his highly anticipated move from DCL’s current employers to N17.
Everton face battle to keep DCL – Could Spurs benefit?
While Spurs have been looking to sign Calvert-Lewin, a latest report by Give Me Sport suggests that the Blues are not ready to give up on losing him on a free transfer and are pushing behind the scenes to secure his signatures in a new deal at Goodison Park.
The 11-cap England international has been spearheading Everton for a while; however, while he has been struggling with injury concerns, it looks that those are finally behind him as he leads Sean Dyche’s side in the English top tier week in and week out.
For Tottenham, DCL would be a great acquisition, but we will need to see if Everton are able to get through to him for a new contract.
