Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a splendid summer transfer window where they saw Daniel Levy and his team adhere to the blueprint of not only the incoming but also the outgoings.

Going into the window, the North Londoners were clear about their plans, as they wanted to bring a marquee striker to ensure that they covered the void left by Harry Kane at the apex of the offence.

Tottenham number, subject to links with multiple strikers over the summer, including the likes of Jonathan David, Ivan Tony, Viktor Gyokeres, Santiago Gimenez, and Dominic Solanke. With such a plethora of options, any incoming would always be questioned if they didn’t hit the ground running.

Ange Postecoglou went on to invest £65m in signing Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, and the ex-Liverpool striker has struggled to make an impact in his short time in North London. This has raised multiple questions from fans and pundits alike about the 27-year-old’s ability to produce consistent output at the elite level.

Ange confirms Toney consideration

One of the players that Spurs were aggressively linked with was then Brentford ace Ivan Toney. Many Spurs faithful are of the opinion that a move for Toney would have suited the club better owing to his attributes to replicate Kane’s presence upfront.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Tottenham considered signing Toney in the summer; however, the Australian vetoed a move for Solanke.

The Greek-born tactician said: (via. Football.London)

“We looked at him but the reality was that Dom is the one that I wanted. It took the whole summer to get him in but he was the one that fitted the profile that we wanted.”

The player went on to move to the Middle East in a life-changing move on the financial side of things. And for Tottenham, everything could be ifs and buts, although they now have to find a way to make things work with Dom.
