Tottenham to imminently hold contract talks with £165k superstar

Tottenham to talk with Romero soon.

Tottenham planning to open extension talks with Romero

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has arguably been their best player in the defensive department over the last few year with his form particularly shooting up since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival into north London.

The former Atalanta centre back has very much deserved the £165,000 per week salary that he is earning at the club (monetary figure through Capology) and although there are still over two years left on his deal at Tottenham, the board is expected to open talks with him sooner rather than later.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news in an exclusive coverage story on Caught Offside wherein the transfer insider was quoted as saying the following:

“Cristian Romero continues to be an important player for Tottenham, and so it’s perhaps normal that we’re starting to see rumours about interest from other top clubs, with some fans asking me if there’s anything to the links with Real Madrid. However, I’m told that nothing is happening now. Romero’s contract could be a topic in the next months as Spurs of course want to keep him for the long term; but no active talks have started yet.”

Like Romano said, Real Madrid have been a club which has shown keenness in recruiting Romero off late but the Whites have been driven away by the Lilywhites. However, with Kylian Mbappe captured, they are plotting a defensive overhaul and could reignite interest in landing Tottenham’s star defender in the next few months.

Jamie Redknapp believes Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero struggles with man-to-man marking.

Romero, having tasted success with Argentina in Copa America and the FIFA World Cup, could be swayed in favour of joining the 15-time European champions to win silverware in his career and in that case, Tottenham could be obliged to sell him.

And given his importance to the team, it comes as no surprise that they are already planning on tightening their grip on the player by offering him improved terms. Not only is Romero’s contract likely to be extended but he will even have to be paid a higher salary.

At 26, however, it remains to be seen if Romero wants to prolong his career at Tottenham or would like to pursue a newer challenge in the years to come, particularly at a place where he can add some trophies to his name.
