published :

Tottenham Hotspur have had a magnificent summer transfer window; however, now that the transfer hiatus is done, the North Londoners vice captain Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane with a potential move to Real Madrid on the cards. But according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, “nothing is happening now” as regards the Argentine’s proposed exit.

In an exclusive interview with CaughtOffside, Romano recently talked about the future of the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

Fabrizio Romano reiterated that Romero’s future is far from certain, but for now, there is no evidence that the player is leaving Spurs anytime soon.

Cristian Romero has played a significant role at White Hart Lane off late and is currently focusing on helping the North London club achieve their goals instead of seeking an exit route.

Discussing the recent Cristian Romero speculation, transfer guru said:

“Cristian Romero continues to be an important player for Tottenham, and so it’s perhaps normal that we’re starting to see rumours about interest from other top clubs, with some fans asking me if there’s anything to the links with Real Madrid.”

“However, I’m told that nothing is happening now. Romero’s contract could be a topic in the next few months, as Spurs of course want to keep him for the long term, but no active talks have started yet.”

What does the future hold for Cristian Romero?

Moreover, Romano did hint that the Lilywhites may look to extend his contract in the near future.

For Spurs faithful, this would be a pretty welcome sign and will likely play a key role in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the future. But there’s no immediate pressure to make a decision as Romero’s current deal expires in 2027.
