Tottenham’s £170k-per-week star apologizes for yellow card against Brentford despite stellar performance

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison arguably played his best game since making a move to White Hart Lane in the Lilywhites recent win against Brentford.

The England international was the architect who ensured that the North Londoners came from behind to make the game count and take all three points after Ange Postecoglou’s side started the game on the back foot when Bryan Mbuemo scored the visitors first mere 22 seconds into the game.

However, one thing that we have seen over the past couple of games is that this Tottenham team doesn’t give up. They push punches till one lands, and then they do it again. That is what they exactly do against Thomas Frank’s side at the weekend.

The Lilywhites marquee summer signing, Dominic Solanke, scored the equaliser before Brennan Johnson gave hosts the lead and James Maddison ensured beating room with Spurs third.

However, many supporters expressed their displeasure at the former Leicester City defender for taking off his shirt and picking up a pointless yellow card after his goal.

Maddison’s apology to his mom

The 27-year-old was asked about his celebration, where he acknowledged his wrongdoing at taking his shirt off and said how his mom gave him a hearing in the aftermath.

Speaking in the post-game interview (via. The Mirror), Maddison said:

“I don’t know why I took my top off. My mum just texted me and said, ‘Keep your top on next time because I’ve got you in my fantasy team and I got minus one for the yellow card’ – so sorry, mum.”

James Maddison back to his best?

This was Maddison’s first goal of the new season, and he would look to get back into his top form in the coming weeks. The £170,000 per week star is an integral part of Ange’s squad; however, his grey patch off late heeded criticisms coming his way.

Though he silenced his naysayers with a brilliant performance, the Lilywhites faithful would hope he continues to put such displays on a consistent basis.
