James Maddison was "unplayable" against Brenford, says Alasdair Gold

Tottenham’s last game saw them come from behind in a local affair at home.

Goals from Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, and James Maddison helped the Lilywhites put behind the previous weekend’s North London Derby defeat.

After the game, Maddison was praised for his performances, in particular by one Spurs correspondent.

James Maddison was “unplayable” against Brenford, says Alasdair Gold

In his latest appearance of Football London’s Spurs podcast, Alasdair Gold praised Maddison’s performances.

“Maddison was superb. His pressing was incredible, and the biggest thing for me about Maddison was how every time they got the ball, he spun and turned so well.

“Maddison’s got a lot to prove this season, and I think it’s going to weigh in Spurs’ favor. His pressing game and ability to create space with clever ball movement are key to Spurs’ attacks.

“Fair play, especially to Spurs, as Maddison was just unplayable. His ability to control the game and roll his opponent on the halfway line created many opportunities.”

Maddison has had a mixed start to this season in contrast to his start last season, during which phase he was one of the best players in the league before his form petered out rather abruptly.

In all, Maddison made 30 appearances last season, scoring four and assisting nine goals.

This season so far, the England international has one goal and two assists from six games.

Madisson has a £170k-per-week contract at Spurs, which runs until June 2028.

Maddison embodying Tottenham

Maddison’s mix start to the season represents Tottenham’s start, in general. However, things are not as bad for either of them as the narrative may hint at, but given the expectations levied upon them, with Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou’s second season and Maddison their marquee signing from last summer, the noises will never really die down.

As long as the first team remains fit, however, Maddison will have enough time on the pitch to improve upon his numbers from last season, especially with the expanded Europa League on the horizon.
