Tottenham Hotspur have done a remarkable job with not only the incomings but also the outgoings at White Hart Lane, and one of those players to bid adieu to the North Londoners was Giovani Lo Celso.
The Argentine arrived at Hotspur Way with ample hopes owing to the fee involved to bring him to North London. Gio signed for the Lilywhites for a club record-equalling fee of €60 million (£55.3 million) in the summer of 2019. He came to N17 hoping to take over the creative reins from Eriksen.
In retrospect, it hasn’t worked out for either the club or the player, as Gio has struggled to find his feet in the physical nature of the English top tier, and Daniel Levy ensured his wages were off the books coming into the new season with a £8.5 million move back to Spurs.
Lo Celso shines at Betis after Tottenham exit
Giovani Lo Celso’s return to Real Betis has worked out greatly for the Argentine, as he has been looking back to his old self and replicating similar performances to what made the Lilywhites buy him in the first place.
Real Betis Ace Romain Perraud has been speaking highly of the Argentine maestro following his recent performances for the La Liga side, relaying how Gio is an integral part of the team at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Speaking in an interview with El Correo de Andalucía, Perraud said, “I know the player; he is a magician. He was at Real Betis before and at PSG and Tottenham. He is a great player who has won the Copa America, and in the number 10 position, he is very important for us, and he will help us a lot this year.”
Can the Argentine lead Betis to glory?
It is easy to forget that Gio is still only twenty-eight and has years left in him, and knowing his quality, he has the capacity to decide games on his own for at least another half of a decade.
While he has struggled to make it at Spurs, that doesn’t mean he cannot make it elsewhere. We have seen many quality players struggle to make it in owing to the physical nature of English football.
It is good to watch him succeed at Betis and live life on the pitch again.
