The season has endured a slow start, and their joint struggle is also seen severally, with multiple Lilywhites players struggling at White Hart Lane, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
The Italian international has started his season with butter fingers between the sticks as ample criticism has come his way in the past couple of weeks.
And former Premier League Danny Murphy has been critical of his performances at the start of the season.
Vicario under fire after Tottenham’s slow start
The 27-year-old joined the Lilywhites from Empoli in the previous year and has since established himself as one of the better keepers in the English top tier. There were mighty praises surrounding him following the start of the previous campaign as he single-handedly changed the build-up phase for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
However, Vicario has failed to replicate those performances in the new season. His performances have not been up to the elites since pre-season, where his couple of errors led against Bayern Munich, which cost heftily to the North Londoners. He has brought his pre-season form into the new season as well, which has seen a lot of criticism coming his way.
Murphy – Vicario’s errors costing Tottenham points
Murphy has now joined the long list of criticism coming Vicario’s way as he claimed that the keepers struggles have been one of the reasons for Spurs’ difficult start to the new season.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Tottenham’s position of 10th is a little bit false in some respects because the only thing they have been lacking really is, well, two things!”

“One is quality in the final third because every game they play, they get in good positions, and the goalkeeper who has got at least 10% of confidence to get himself off the line and maybe pass to his own players a bit more often because he is really struggling.”
Despite his slow start to the season, Vicario is still Tottenham’s undisputed number one keeper, and the Lilywhites supporters would be expecting him to regain his confidence.
