Edmundo backs Vasco da Gama to make move for Richarlison

Of the many players Spurs wanted to but did not manage to offload this summer, Richarlison is one.

The Brazil international has failed to justify the £60 million Spurs spent on him to bring him from Everton two years ago, and the Lilywhites are ready to cut their losses short.

One of his compatriots has made a strong claim that could see the club’s wishes fulfilled.

Edmundo backs Vasco da Gama to make move for Richarlison

Former professional footballer Edmundo has stated that it’s likely Vasco da Gama make a move for Tottenham forward Richarlison in the near future.

The 37-cap former Brazil international, who came through the Vasco da Gama academy and had four different spells with them over the course of his senior playing career, said recently on his YouTube channel that the club’s transfer policy dictated the acquisition of someone like the 27-year-old.

“Now, the idea is to keep all the main players and hire two or three heavyweight players. One for the defence, one for the midfield and two for the attack. Heavyweight like Richarlison. I’m dreaming and I can guarantee that 2025 will be different.”

Edmundo, as relayed by CNN Brasil and further reported by TeamTalk.

Richarlison was subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League but decided to stay at Spurs and stake a claim for himself. He is currently out injured and not set to return anytime soon.

Richarlison’s record for Spurs so far reads: 68 games, 15 goals, eight assists. His £90,000-per-week contract at the club is set to run until June 2027.

It’s possible

CNN Brasil places Edmundo in the inner circle of the current Vasco da Gama president, Pedrinho, making a potential move for Richarlison not improbable.

Of course, the Brasileirão club will likely not offer him the same kind of money he could earn in Saudi Arabia, but he’d definitely be playing at a higher level if he were to return to Brazil.

This is one of those cases that can go either way, but given his recent choices, it’s likely we see Richarlison in Brazil this time next year than in the Middle East.
