Manchester United monitoring Tottenham flop following recent career resurgence

published :

Given Tottenham’s trophy drought, it is usual for their players to experience glory after moving on from the North London club.

From Luka Modrić to Étienne Capoue, there are plenty of examples of former Spurs players over the last decade and half who have managed to win trophies after leaving Spurs.

Here, we have fresh update regarding one of their players who had to take a step down in order to revitalise his career.

Man United monitoring ex-Spurs midfielder Harry Winks

According to Fichajes, Man United are looking at Leicester City’s Harry Winks as a low-cost option for their midfield woes.

The deep-lying English midfielder came through the ranks at Tottenham, but despite making over 200 appearances for them over an eight-year period he never managed to nail down a starting position for himself in the long term.

After a season-long loan spell at Serie A side Sampdoria, Winks was picked up by Leicester last season for €11.6 million, a move that immediately paid dividends as the 10-cap England international became a key part of Enzo Maresca’s side that managed to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €12 million, the 28-year-old has in place at the King Power a £90k-per-week contract set to run until June 2026.

Winks serves United’s requirement

United desperately need a deep-lying midfielder that is good on the ball to help them in build-up. Neither Casemiro nor Manuel Ugarte offers them this, which makes Winks immediately an upgrade at least for their in-possession game.

So, it would not be surprising if they were to move for him in the coming months.

As far as his time at Spurs is considered, the managerial upheaval of the last half a decade can be attributed to Winks not managing to have too successful a time in North London, but it’s not always necessary for a marriage to work out, so it was wise on Spurs’ part to let him go when they did; they’re not exactly missing him.
