Fabrizio Romano confirms Tottenham interest in La Liga star despite failed 2022 bid

published :

Barcelona have had a strong start to the season under new coach Hansi Flick.

One of the key players for the current La Liga toppers this early in the season has been Raphinha.

One renowned football journalist has provided an update regarding the Brazil international that is definitely going to get some discussions going.

Tottenham still like Raphinha, says Fabrizio Romano

According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham retain an interest in Barcelona forward Raphinha, having monitored him since his Leeds United days.

“Raphinha has always been attractive to several clubs, not only in Europe, when Barcelona signed him from Leeds there was interest from Chelsea and interest from Arsenal. He’s always been a player of interest for Tottenham, they have always appreciated him.”

The Brazil international is not in his third season at Barcelona, having moved there from Leeds United two summers ago on the back of a €58m move.

The 27-year-old has started the 2024/25 season in sensational form, with five goals and three assists from his first six LaLiga appearances.

Currently valued by Transfermarkt at €50 million, Raphinha has in place at Barça a €12.5m-per-year contract set to run until June 2027.

No Barça player out of bounds

Raphinha, owing to his start to this season, is an indispensable part of Flick’s Barça, though as we know that the club’s financial situation means no player is out of bounds if a really good offer comes along the way.

That said, despite their long-held interest in him, Tottenham are unlikely to get their hands on Raphinha anytime soon, unless they let go a big player or two by next summer and are ready to spend big again, which will depend on how their latest record signing turns out.
