Tottenham ace makes fitness claim after Europa League win over Qarabag

Tottenham Hotspur went into the last summer window prioritizing singing a marquee striker, and that is what Daniel Levy delivered as he forked out £65m to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. While the former Liverpool striker has endured initial struggles to settle in at White Hart Lane, however, it seems that the 27-year-old has finally found his feet.

Big Dom added another goal to his tally last night, helping the Lilywhites secure a convincing 3-0 victory over Qarabag FK in the process. His performance against the Azerbaijani side was one of the bright things coming out of Spurs opening Europa League fixture.

While it looks like a cake walk from the outside, Qarabag FK posed a potent threat, especially after Radu Dragusin saw a red card in the first ten minutes of the game. But that didn’t faze the hosts, as they went on to win the fixture irrespective of playing the majority of the game with ten men. Goals from Brennan Johnson, Pape Matar Sarr, and of course, Solanke, led Spurs to victory yesterday.

And following the conclusion of the game, the 27-year-old spoke about how the Lilywhites planned to ensure that they could come out with a win. He went to add about his injury struggles off late, but excitedly, the striker admitted that there is still a lot to come from him.

Solanke opens up on the game & his fitness

Speaking in an interview to TNT Sports, Solanke said:

“Very happy to get the win; the boys fought hard. Going down to 10 men, it could have been a difficult game, but we all stuck to the game plan, and it shows the spirit of the team. I can still get fitter. I had that injury at the start of the season, which knocked my rhythm.”
