Tottenham had an interesting summer transfer window this time round, which saw them focusing on the stars of tomorrow and less on their present requirements.
To that end, a new name has emerged on the European scene that should see a transfer tussle emerge for his signature in a not-too-distant future.
Arsenal and Chelsea monitoring Tottenham-linked Max Moerstedt
As reported by TBR Football, Arsenal and Chelsea have entered the race for Hoffenheim starlet Max Moerstedt.
The two London clubs had scouts in attendance in Denmark earlier in the week as the 18-year-old snatched a point for his side in the last minute of regulation time against Midtjylland during their Europa League opener.
The 6’4″ striker is in his first full senior season at the PreZero Arena, but already he is attracting interest from the English juggernauts owing to a stellar record in youth football.
Across U17 and U19 football, Moerstedt boasts a record of 55 goals and 17 assists in 63 appearances.
Currently valued by Transfermarkt at €1 million, the Germany U18 international has in place a €280k-per-year contract at Hoffenheim that is set to run until June 2027.
Apart from Arsenal and Chelsea, Tottenham also face competition from Man United and West Ham for his signature.
Race to the finish
The interest of the aforementioned Premier League heavyweights in Moerstedt further demonstrates the change in scouting patterns at the top of English football.
Not too long ago, we had the big teams letting the mid-to-lower-table teams bring in promising players from fringe corners of the footballing world, have them prove themselves in the topflight, and then make a move for them, all too happy to pay the premium.
This is changing now, as clubs start to tighten their budgets and scout more extensively. Thankfully for Spurs, they already have in place a transfer policy that has established them as a place youngsters would want to move to in order to improve themselves.
