Postecoglou speaks on Son’s injury after Tottenham’s Europa League win
10-man Tottenham Hotspur beat Qarabag 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening as Brennan Johnson, Pape Matar Sarr and Dominic Solanke found the back of the net in a comfortable result in spite of Radu Dragusin’s red card very early in the match.
The Lilywhites were admirably but all was not rosey in the aftermath of their win as their captain and arguably the best player on their roster, Son Heung-min, needed to be taken off due to an apparent injury immediately after Solanke’s goal.
It is a concerning issue for Ange Postecoglou, whose charges face Manchester United in less than 72 hours after the win in the Europa League. The manager was quizzed by the media regarding Son’s substitution, to which he replied the following as per Evening Standard:
“I haven’t spoken to him. He said he felt a bit tired but I haven’t spoken to him or medicals yet.”
Tottenham will be due to train on Friday in preparation of their visit to Old Trafford and shortly thereafter, Ange Postecoglou will speak to the media and so another update, this time some thing more concrete, could be on its way sooner rather than later.
With that said, it does not look as if Son’s injury is as bad as some fears would suggest. The South Korean international did not look in significant pain when he was taken off, so his withdrawal from the Qarabag match may have only been a precautionary measure ahead of the Man United game.
He has not been in the best runs of form this season but there is no denying the winger’s qualities, especially when it comes to fixtures against the bigger side. As he has done so often in the past, Son will need to be on top of his game if Spurs are to beat United on Sunday.

There still is no clarity as to whether or not Son will feature against United but it does not look like an injury will keep him out in the longer run, much to Tottenham’s relief.
