Paul Merson mocks Ange Postecoglou's chances of securing silverware with Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Tottenham Hotspur have learnt who they are going to face in the Carabao Cup fourth round of the 2024/25 campaign as they draw a difficult fixture with a game against Manchester City around the corner for the North Londoners, who came off a dramatic win in the third round and will now host Pep Guardiola’s side at White Hart Lane.

The Lilywhites have booked their place in the lot for the fourth round following a 2-1 win over Coventry City in the third round when they found themselves on the brink of elimination.

Tottenham were trailing 1-0 with just a couple of minutes of regular time on the clock before Djed Spence stood up and Brennan Johnson followed his trail to inspire a comeback, with the latter netting the winner in the extra time.

The fourth-round games for the League Cup are scheduled to be played in the week starting from Monday, October 28, 2024, and for Ange Postecoglou, this will fall between a Premier League away trip to Selhurst Park where they face Crystal Palace and hosting Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, which adds spice to what is already an already congested schedule at Hotspur Way.

Spurs last silverware came in this very competition back in 2008, when it was known as the Carling Cup, when Juande Ramos’ side won over Avram Grant’s Chelsea in what was a memorable night at Wembley for Tottenham fans. And Ange will want to repeat the feat this season as his side looks to compete on multiple fronts after having secured a return to European football with qualification to the Europa League.

For Tottenham, a draw against Manchester City presents both a significant challenge. And yet this is a golden opportunity for Ange Postecoglou’s side, as a win over the defending Premier League champions could help them as a statement of intent for the project that the Australian manager has undertook, and it would also potentially ignite Tottenham’s season across all competitions.
