Tottenham are interested in signing Velez Sarsfield winger Thiago Fernandez
Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a solid summer transfer window as they made some exciting signings to help rebuild Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
The North London club narrowly missed out on a spot in the Champions League last season, finishing fifth in the Premier League and qualifying for the Europa League in the process. Daniel Levy and his team did a good job of bolstering the squad with fresh faces, and while Ange Postecoglou looks to integrate new faces at Hotspur Way, the officials behind the scenes have already started laying the groundwork for future investments.
A move for Velez Sarsfield’s Thiago Fernandez seems to be among the cards as Tottenham looks to fortify the offensive options at Big Ange’s disposal. According to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Spurs are tracking the development of Velez Sarsfield winger Thiago Fernandez.

The 20-year-old is the latest Argentine prospect to rise in prominence. He spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth system of Velez Sarsfield. The winger has enjoyed a strong 2024/25 campaign, registering five goals and eight assists in 30 appearances across all competitions for Velez Sarsfield this season thus far.
Fernandez’s playing style has seen him draw comparisons to the Argentina international Angel di Maria. The report adds there are a host of clubs across Europe vying for the young winger’s signature. This clearly tells the Buenos Aires-born talent will be a coveted commodity when the transfer window reopens.
The two-cap Argentina under-23 international’s contract at his club expires in December 2025 (Transfermarkt), which could see clubs eye a bargain move for him in the winter transfer window. A right-footed winger who likes to cut in from the left, Fernandez would be a terrific addition to Spurs’ pool of young talents with high potential. The 20-year-old is creative, can shoot well from distance and score the odd free-kick, making him a strong long-term investment for the Lilywhites.
Son Heung-min is 32 and into the final year of his contract (Transfermarkt), and while he is still Spurs’ best attacker, the club must start thinking about his long-term successor. And Fernandez fits that profile perfectly.

However, Tottenham will face competition from Premier League rivals in their pursuit of the highly-rated Argentinean, and the fact that he is a raw, dynamic talent with a high ceiling, just like Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Destiny Udogie, makes him an attractive prospect.
