Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been subject to links with a move away from White Hart Lane, with Spanish giants Real Madrid expressing interest in his services. The Argentine defender has proven his credentials as one of the best centre-backs in all of Europe following his influential role under Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs signed Romero from Atalanta in 2022 in a deal worth £42 million, and his stature has only grown since he moved to N17, so much so that he is now the vice captain at Hotspur Way.
However, there have been multiple reports that suggested that Madrid are ready to pounce on Romero. Their interest in the Argentine defender started through the summer window; however, Daniel Levy didn’t want to enter the negotiations table with Los Blancos for Romero.
Spurs resisting Real Madrid’s advances for Romero
Many assumed that the interest would stop once the summer concludes, but it has been the other way around; the La Liga giants have only compounded their interest in the defender since the summer.
They have continued to push for a move for the 26-year-old, with a probable transfer on cards for a summer move. And John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, insists that any move for the Lilywhites defender would cost over £100m.
Beyond Madrid, the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have also approached Spurs for Romero, per TyC Sports.
Wenham in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, insisting that Tottenham would not want to be ideally selling players to elite sides.

Wenham said:
“We bought Romero for quite a big sum of money. As a starting point, I think he would go for north of double what we paid for him. He has joined the club, won the World Cup and Copa America, and become an established name.
“Do we want to be selling our genuine world-class players? No, of course not, the big clubs don’t do that. However, if we did have to sell him, we’d be talking about a fee of £100million-plus.”
Tottenham hope to ward off interest with new deal
Tottenham at the moment are trying to hand the player a new deal, however, without guarantee that the 26-year-old will put pen to paper.

Ideally for Tottenham, Daniel Levy would hate the idea of selling Romero. What about you? Would you sell Romero if a £100 offer were to come in next summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
