Strongest Tottenham XI against Brighton & Hove Albion

Tottenham focused most of their efforts in the recent transfer window towards buying young, promising players as part of their long-term project.

One such player they targeted but failed to land was Patrick Dorgu, whose comparisons to a certain Gareth Bale help understand their interest.

And, according to recent reports, their pursuit is only going to get harder.

Liverpool ready to battle Tottenham for Patrick Dorgu

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are ready to battle Tottenham for the signature of Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu in the coming transfer window.

2022/23 Serie A champions Napoli are also keen on the 19-year-old, who despite just one full senior season under his belt is already attracting big names from across Europe.

The left-footed Denmark international usually plays as a fullback but has shown capability further up the pitch. His numbers for Lecce read thus: three goals and an assist in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €12 million, Dorgu currently has in place a €120k-per-year contract at Lecce that runs until June 2027.

Getting them early

Over the summer, Spurs have definitely done a decent job of making a name for themselves as the newest big club on the block with a keen interest in scooping up talent early.

However, despite the obvious Bale comparisons, they’ll find it hard to land Dorgu, especially if Napoli remains in the mix. The Antonio Conte-led side are flying in the Serie A right now, and if he were to deliver them at least Champions League football come the end of this season, there is every chance the club back him strongly for a bigger push next summer.

It won’t be the most baffling thing in the world if Dorgu were to take the step up but remain in Italy for the next few seasons.
