Kulusevski speaks highly about Tottenham’s mentality
Tottenham Hotspur have now won four successive matches as a defeat of Manchester United at Old Trafford shed some bright light on the good work that Ange Postecoglou has done at the club.
While it was just the team’s third win in the Premier League in six attempts, it is fair to say that some results have been harsh on Tottenham. They did not deserve to drop points against Leicester City in the opening fixture of the campaign while Arsenal were also arguably very fortunate to earn the bragging rights in the north London derby some weeks ago.
Recent successes over the likes of Brentford, Qarabag and Manchester United, however, have signalled a shift in gear at the club, particularly in the final third as the offensive players are burying more chances than they had done in the earlier stages of the sesason.
One of the team’s younger but better paid players in Dejan Kulusevski, who earns £110,000 per week, has hailed the mentality of the dressing room owing to their results off late, especially the win over Manchester United. Football London reported him saying the below.
“That’s what champions do. Every day you have to perform and you have to win games, so it’s very important. That’s how we need to play. Our season started now. Four wins in a row, the feeling is very good. A lot of happy players and it’s showing on the pitch.”
In spite of some unsatisfactory results some time back, Ange Postecoglou remained bullish on Tottenham’s chances of winning silverware this season. The Australian cited successful campaigns at previous clubs in his second season as a particular reason towards his belief of breaking Tottenham’s duck of not winning any trophy in over a decade.
And while the Premier League may come a bit too soon and is also a bit too competitive for Tottenham to give a realistic shot, there is every reason to believe that they can contend for a top four spot in the English top flight to seal a Champions League berth.
Alternatively, winning the Europa League this season is also a very realistic possibility for Tottenham and if they can maintain the form they have shown over the last fortnight or so, Spurs would emerge as outright favourites to win the competition imminently ahead of the likes of Manchester United, Athletic Bilbao and Olympique Lyon – some of the other contenders.
