Tottenham could have scored six if Son played against Manchester United – Redknapp
Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United 3-0 in the Premier League last weekend in what was arguably their best performance of the season so far. A comfortable win over the Red Devils moved them up to eighth in the table as their search for a spot in the Champions League for the first time since 2019 continues.
Their success against Erik ten Hag’s outfit was a statement win which earned the praise of several fans and pundits around the world, especially because a 3-0 scoreline does not shed enough light on how much really Tottenham dominated proceedings at Old Trafford.
Jamie Redknapp was also full of praise for his former employers in the aftermath of the game. He believes the margin of victory could easily have been double if the Lilywhites had Son Heung-min available, after the left winger missed out on proceedings due to a muscular injury. He was quoted saying the following by Sky Sports.
“If Son had played today, it would’ve been six. Tottenham needed the performance, it was a statement win and they haven’t played bad in any games yet, even the North London derby which always hurt more. All the other games, there’s been some really good performances and more than their points deserve.”
Like the 51-year-old said, Tottenham needed a big win like the one against Manchester United as their dropped points at the start of the campaign do not tell the whole story. As such, they were on top against Leicester City and deserved to beat them whereas at least a point was deserved by Ange Postecoglou’s charges against Arsenal.
Perhaps, Spurs only deserved to lose against Newcastle United as they were caught flat footed on the transitions but even against the Magpies, they created several chances to their credit. Son Heung-min has interestingly been among Tottenham’s underperforming assets this season but against United, he would have dispatched the chances which Timo Werner missed.

With Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke starting to find the back of the net regularly, the onus will be on Son to join his offensive partners in wearing the shooting boots and if indeed the South Korean international can deliver on all guns blazing, Spurs could dominate more games as nonchalantly as they did against United.
