Dominic Solanke has not had the easiest of careers thus far.
Starting as a promising youngster at Chelsea, he was picked up Liverpool as a teenager for free after being let go by the Blues after a ten-year academy stint. He only ever made one 17-minute senior appearance for Chelsea, but he did spend time on loan at Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem, as was almost customary for Chelsea players back in the day; his season in the Netherlands saw him score seven goals and provide one assist in 26 appearances.
Solanke did have a commendable youth record at Chelsea: 35 goals and six assists from 45 appearances.
He failed to impress during his time at Anfield, however, managing just a goal and assist each in 27 appearances, because of which he had to drop down a level to regain form and reputation.
This took him to the British south coast as he joined Bournemouth, who took quite a punt on him as they paid the Merseyside Reds £19 million for his services in the summer of 2019. The move paid, however, and over a half-a-decade period he went on from being on of the what-could-have-been players to one of the hottest prospects in English football, scoring 77 goals and providing 31 assists in 216 matches across all competitions.
Now 27, Solanke is definitely a late bloomer, but he has finally returned to the top level of football as Tottenham broke the bank for him this summer to bring him to North London in a £65m deal.
