Premier League icon namedrops Tottenham star deemed ‘undroppable’

Alasdair Gold praises Postecoglou for instilling a "we-never-stop" approach at Tottenham.

Four Tottenham players have found themselves on Alan Shearer’s official Premier League Team of the Week. And it’s hard to argue against it; a 3-0 rout of Man United in their own backyard warrants that kind of recognition.

Of the Spurs stars that shone on the day, Shearer deems one of them simply cannot be taken off the pitch.

Alan Shearer deems Brennan Johnson “undroppable”

Former Premier League forward and football pundit Alan Shearer not only included Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson in his team of the week, he also had huge praise for him.

“A goal and an assist to continue his fine run of form for Spurs. He’s undroppable in this form.”

Shearer on Johnson, as mentioned on the Premier League website.

The Wales international was one of four Spurs players included in the 260-PL-goal man’s team of the past week, the other three being Micky van de Ven, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison, all of whom played a key role in the Lilywhites running riot at Old Trafford as they beat Man United 3-0.

Johnson has been in red-hot form ever since deactivating his social media on the back of incessant abuse and trolling. He now has four goals in eight games across all competitions this season.

Fair enough

Johnson has been playing well recently, so it’s hard to take away the praise from the young forward.

Credit ought also to be given to his manager, Ange Postecoglou. Given his treatment of Richarlison from last season after he had opened up about his mental health struggles to his defence of both Johnson and Dominic Solanke this season, for all his tactical flaws, he is a man hard to not respect and like, someone we need in our ever-vitriolic football ecosystem.

One can only hope Johnson starts feeling good about life again, regardless of how he fares on the pitch going forward.
