Revealed: why Sergio Reguilón has traveled to Hungary despite not being in UEL squad.

Up next for Tottenham is a UEFA Europa League (UEL) fixture away in Hungary against Ferencváros.

As part of the Spurs contingent is one player that is not even part of the squad registered for the competition, someone who was told before pre-season to find new employers.

And it has now been revealed as to why Sergio Reguilón has travelled with the Tottenham squad for their UEL away day.

Revealed: Why Sergio Reguilón has travelled to Hungary despite not being in Tottenham’s Europa League squad

As reported by Football London, Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilón has travelled to Hungary to help the side during training sessions, “to ensure that the quality of training is what it needs to be”.

Reguilón, having been told in the early weeks of pre-season that he wouldn’t be part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans, was not included in Tottenham’s squad for Europe this term.

Despite looking for new employers all summer, and having been linked to a fair few clubs, the 27-year-old failed to find a new landing spot.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €12 million, Reguilón is in the final year of his £53k-per-week contract at Spurs.

Wise resource allocation

It’s a shame that Reguilón has not been able to find a new club in all the time he had, that a player like him has to effectively be on sabbatical until at least January.

This is where him being a part of Spurs’ training regimen comes in handy. The session will at least help Reguilón stay fit enough to start playing again when he does eventually move, hopefully in January.

That said, let’s not rule out a surprise Postecoglou sacking before January comes around, which miraculously bring Reguilón back into the fold.
