Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to a move for Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, who has been doing well in France and got a recent call to the England squad and former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Gomes would be a great addition to the North London club.
Gomes made his international debut under interim manager Lee Carsley, and although he is young and has much to learn, he has already proven himself with a big talent. It’s no surprise that the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Borussia Dortmund are all interested in signing him.
Could Gomes return to the Premier League?
The 24-year-old’s recent call-up to the England squad has got people talking about a possible move back to the Premier League. Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson thinks it’s possible and could also be a great chance for Spurs to sign him.
He said:
“He’s the type of quality player you want your club looking at, obviously. If there is a route back to the Premier League for him, Spurs won’t be the only suitors for him.
Paul Robinson also noted that Lee Carsley is increasingly likely to become England’s permanent manager, which could mean more international opportunities for Angel Gomes. Paul continued:
“Lee Carsley is looking more and more likely to get the England job on a permanent basis, and with that in mind, he’s going to get more minutes at international level. He’s a top-quality player.”
What’s next?
Since moving to Ligue 1, Gomes has done very well, having made 122 appearances, scored eight goals, and assisted 19 others in four seasons. His development in France has been impressive, and a move back to England could signal the next step in his career.
