Micky van de Ven earned himself even more headlines last week as his lung-bursting run right at the start buried Man United nice and early in the eventual 3-0 victory for the Lilywhites.
The Dutchman continues going strength to strength in the Spurs backline, not only as someone who bails them out in counter-attacks but also someone who can bring the ball out from the back and catch the opposition by surprise.
Recently, he was also used as a benchmark for one of Spurs’ future arrivals.
Tottenham-bound Luka Vušković deemed Micky van de Ven successor
In his latest loan-watch column for Football London, Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold made an exception as he included in his brief Luka Vušković, who despite not currently being on the club’s books is set to arrive in North London next summer, and he made an interesting comparison.
The match [against Standard Liège while playing for Westerlo] also brought a remarkable assist from 17-year-old future Spurs player Luka Vuskovic, who we’re going to include each week because he’s playing alongside Devine.
Not technically on loan from Tottenham, but joining the club next year, the teenager burst up the pitch Micky van de Ven-style, and showed some great footwork before slipping in Matija Frigan to score the opening goal of the game after the hour mark.
The Croatia U19 international was announced by the club as a 2025 arrival last summer, with the club having agreed a £12m deal with Hajduk Split and handed him a contract set to run until June 2030.
Vušković is currently on loan at Belgian topflight side Westerlo.
All in good time
At just 17, Vušković is unquestionably defying his age.
While one should be reasonable and offer the Croat some time to settle once he does arrive next year, it will not be surprising if he were to soon be integrated into the squad, given both Ange Postecoglou’s confidence in his teenage operators and the presence of Van de Ven.
All in all, another successful coup from the Tottenham management.
