Bold substitutions and a new Spurs hero: Three Talking points as Tottenham down Aston Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur skipper Heung-Min Son has been on the receiving end of a disappointing injury spell as the South Korean star hasn’t featured for the Lilywhites for Spurs since their 3-0 win over Qarabag FK in the Europa League on September 26th.

The 32-year-old has been serving the injury room owing to a thigh problem that he suffered in the aforementioned game.

While Son was not featuring for his club, his country manager Hong Myung-Bo served a call-up to the Spurs skipper for the upcoming international break in October.

The South Korean manager insists that his countryman is making gradual progress in his injury; however, he also goes on to acknowledge that Tottenham do not want to rush back the wide-forward.

This has led to a new development about Son going to represent his country for the international break.

Son withdraws from South Korea squad

The Korea Football Association [KFA], as relayed by FourFourTwo, has now confirmed that the North London skipper has withdrawn from the squad and his presence in the dressing room is set to be replaced by Mainz 05’s Hong Hyun-seok.

South Korea is scheduled to face Jordan and Iraq in two World Cup qualifiers later this month.

An official statement by KFA confirming Son’s withdrawal:

“It was decided that Son Heung-min, who suffered a left thigh injury, needs rest and has been excluded from the squad to protect the player. Hong Hyun-seok has been selected to replace Son Heung-min.

Ange Postecoglou has been playing some impressive football without Son, as Spurs win their last two fixtures against Manchester United and Ferencvárosi, and while the South Korean is very important to the team, the former Celtic coach would be hoping that his side can deliver similar results when they travel to Brighton at the weekend.

Son has netted twice and has a couple of assists to his name in the ongoing season, and Spurs faithful would be hoping that he comes back into his old self when he returns for Tottenham after the international break.
