Tottenham Hotspur have a bunch of highly regarded young players budding in the academy at Hotspur Way as Daniel Levy looks to introduce a pipeline of talent continually coming through the ranks at White Hart Lane, with 16-year-old Junai Byfield being the latest in line to make a name for himself.
Spurs are watching Mikey Moore show his talent and abilities on a continual basis off late, with the academy graduate putting in a splendid performance yesterday. And it looks like Under-18 centre-back Junai Byfield will be joining him in the first team ranks soon.
John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, insists that the central defender is “the perfect, modern-day progressive centre-back.”
Byfield has started all of the six games for the Under-18 Premier League in the ongoing campaign, with the most recent being against Reading at Hotspur Way, as the 16-year-old helped Tottenham to a clean sheet.
Wenham compares Byfield to Moore
And John Wenham, speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, expressed his delight at Byfield’s progress while likening the player to Moore’s potential. Wenham said:
“He won’t get as many plaudits as someone like Mikey Moore. However, in terms of actual potential, I think he might be of the same level. Every time I watch him play, he has pace, and power and he is good on the ball for a big centre-back.”
“He just has every single attribute. It is as if he was made in a lab to be the perfect, modern-day progressive centre-back.”
“He is a schoolboy player who is starting every game for the Under-18s. As a result, I am really pleased with his progress.”
Spurs, at the moment, have a decent understudy of central defenders coming through the ranks. Ashley Phillips is impressing for Stoke City, and there has been speculation about him moving to a Premier League loan soon. The Lilywhites are also expecting Luka Vušković to come back from his loan with Westerlo. And now Ange has another starlet in the position, Junai Byfield.
