£68m release clause keeps Tottenham interested in 27-year-old PL star

Tottenham Hotspur keen on Ajax Amsterdam starlet Devyne Rensch.

Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze was one of the hottest prospects touted for a move away in the recent summer transfer window.

Despite interest from multiple clubs, including Tottenham and Manchester City, Eze was able to be kept hold of by Palace, who wanted to not lose another star after selling Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.

However, they may not be able to do so next summer.

Imminent Eberechi Eze release clause keeping Tottenham interested

As reported by TeamTalk, Tottenham remain interested in Eberechi Eze and are likely to move for him again in the coming months.

The 26-year-old has a £68m release clause in his current £100k-a-week Palace contract—which is set to run until June 2027—that will become active next year, leaving the Eagles with little choice.

Eze is now in his fifth season at Selhurst Park, and despite Palace having started the season poorly, currently languishing in the relegation zone with no wins after six games, he has registered three goals and an assist in eight games across all competitions.

Tick tock

Eze will have turned 27 by the time the next season rolls around. In his prime years, he will have a crucial choice to make.

He has in front of him the examples of Michael Olise, who is four years his junior, left for Bayern this summer and has been on fire, and Wilfried Zaha, who waited too long to get that big move and ultimately priced himself out of the market only to end up at Galatasaray, where he struggled and has already moved on from.

It’s a cliche that a footballer’s career goes by in an instant, but there is some truth about it. Eze does not have the time to pick up poorly and will need to make sure his inevitable move turns out to be the right one for him. Of course, he could just choose to remain at Palace, but that looks unlikely at this point in time and will come with its own consequences.
