It wasn’t too long ago that Ange Postecoglou was defending Dominic Solanke in media after the latter’s sluggish start to life in North London.
In just a few weeks, fortunes have turned, and now an in-form Solanke is set to return to the England national team setup after seven years.
Postecoglou spoke on the matter ahead of Spurs’ next game.
Ange Postecoglou refuses to take credit for Dominic Solanke’s England return
Speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League game away at Brighton on Sunday, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou spoke about, among other things, the return of Dominic Solanke to the England national team setup.
As he praised his striker, he was also keen about emphasising the importance of his career trajectory while refusing to take any responsibility in his recent good fortunes.
I don’t know about surprised [over his call-up], with Dom he’s had to work awfully hard in his career. It’s important to all young players that the trajectory doesn’t always go in a linear fashion.
He was at big clubs, didn’t get started but didn’t deter him went to Bournemouth and did well.
It’s all down to him. I’ve had him for a month, I’ve had zero to do with his call-up, it’s down to him.
Postecoglou on Solanke, as quoted by Football London.
A tame start to life in North London has given way to a string of better performances for Tottenham’s new record signing, who now has three goals and an assist in his opening seven games for the Lilywhites.
England will resume their 2024/25 UEFA Nations League campaign in the upcoming international break, taking on Greece and Finland.
This is why we love Postecoglou
Mainstream media discourse can and often does tend to be a boring, repetitive business, but not with Postecoglou. Even when speaking on mundane matters, the man has the ability of saying things in a way that leave you enchanted or at least interested in listening to him more.
These comments of his on Solanke further demonstrate his magnetism, and why players love playing for him.
Postecoglou’s tactics may be fatally flawed for the very top level of professional football, but the sport is definitely better with him in it.
