Tottenham Hotspur are set to visit Brighton and Hove Albion as they return to focus on Premier League proceedings after another splendid display in the Europa League as they got better of Hungarian champions last Thursday.
Ange Postecoglou has inspired his side to a strong form after what was an underwhelming display at the commencement of the ongoing season. As the Lilywhites continue to display their impressive performances, the challenge on the weekend is unique and unpredictable as they visit East Sussex to face Fabian Hürzeler’s side.
Merson predicts close encounter between Tottenham and Brighton
Former Arsenal star turned pundit at Sky Sports, Paul Merson, insists that the game would be a close contest as he acknowledges the quality that the Seagulls possess. He acknowledged the Lilywhites 3-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend, however, and spoke about how Brighton are a tricky test, basing it on how the Seagulls played against Arsenal and Chelsea. Merson thinks that the game will end in a 2-2 draw.
He insists that Brighton’s offensive sequences make it more challenging for the Lilywhites as compared to their game against Erik ten Hag’s side last weekend.
In his column for Sportskeeda, Merson writes:
“Tough game to pick this one. Brighton actually went after both Arsenal and Chelsea, even though they lost to the Blues last weekend.
“Without playing down Tottenham’s win at Old Trafford, I must admit that Manchester United are not Brighton. So you could even argue this is a tougher game.
“If Tottenham get four points from Manchester United and Brighton, that’s not a bad start for them. This is a hard football match and I’m going for a draw.”
Can Tottenham repeat Manchester United magic against Brighton?
In a quick head-to-head history, Tottenham have an impressive record against their opponents on Sunday, winning 9 of the 14 games that two sides have rubbed shoulders with only one of the balance games ending in a draw.
The North Londoners have a few selection dilemmas ahead of their game against Brighton, as the Greek-tactician in charge at Hotspur Way faces a few injury problems going into the game; skipper Heung-Min Son is not expected to be available for the fixture alongside Wilson Odobert and Richarlison. Moreover, defensively, Destiny Udogie will have to face a late fitness test if he were to feature for Spurs this weekend.
Despite the injury challenges, Tottenham will be looking to get through with all three points this weekend.
