Tottenham could yet earn Dele Alli bonus despite Italian interest

Tottenham may yet get some financial compensation from Everton for Dele Alli.

When Spurs let the Englishman move to Merseyside for free in January 2022, they had included performance-based bonuses and a sell-on cut they would stand to get along with another bonus if Dele made 20 or more appearances for the Toffees.

Of course, things did not turn out at all well for the 37-cap England international, who last played a professional football game in February last year while on loan at Beşiktaş. He made 13 appearances in all for Everton.

The 28-year-old’s Everton contract expired at the end of last season, though he has been training with them in recent weeks. Everton have enough room in their squad to re-register Dele as a free agent; given their start to the season, it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing if they were to offer him a short-term contract, which could see him fulfil the appearances criteria to land Spurs that financial compensation.

According to Italian outlet Il Secolo XIX, however, Dele is also being considered by Serie A side Genoa, who are looking for a season-long replacement for Ruslan Malinovskyi, who recently underwent surgery after fracturing his fibula and dislocating his ankle.

The ex-Spurs man is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €5 million.

Hoping for the best

Knowing what we now know about Dele’s life, one can only wish for the best and hope he lands on his feet.

We rarely see players come back after reaching the point Dele has, though what he has already achieved as a professional is undoubtedly commendable, and then there are always exceptions.

Given his unavoidable talent, there is no doubt that, once he regains fitness, Dele will be able to land himself a short-term contract, be it at Everton, Genoa, or anywhere else altogether.
