Tottenham Hotspur have a number of highly rated young players coming through their ranks, and that means the responsibility to ensure the development of each individual falls greatly on the chiefs in the cubicles at Hotspur Way; among a bunch of these highly regarded starlets is Dane Scarlett.
Scarlett is one of the players who was highly attributed when he came into the picture at White Hart Lane; however, he has endured a difficult spell off late, and the glimpses of his potential are fading with time.
It is easy to forget that he is still very young and there is still a lot to come.
Major concerns were raised when the Lilywhites decided to loan him to Oxford United owing to the number of players in the position who will compete the Spurs academy graduate. And with one of the highly regarded stars facing problems accumulating regular game time under his belt, it emerges as a concern for the chiefs at the club.
Wenham calls for Scarlett to be recalled
John Wenham, owner of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, has put on concerns about the 20-year-old’s lack of playing time. The podcast host thinks that the Lilywhites should be pondering about getting Scarlett re-called in the upcoming winter transfer window and then loaning him to a place where he can get more regular playing minutes.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“I am constantly defending Scarlett. Whenever he goes away with the England youth groups, he scores. Therefore, I just find this situation really frustrating.“
“I know Scarlett is a really good player, he just needs the right club where he is going to play. Therefore, to have loaned him somewhere once again where he isn’t playing is frustrating.“
“We can only keep going with this situation until January, and if he is to be recalled, he needs to be sent to a club where he is going to start. If he is given game time, he will score.”
If recalled, this would be another disastrous loan spell for the 20-year-old, who at the time was one of Spurs more promising talents. It would hurt Spurs faithful to see his situation, but they would hope Dane can turn it around.
