The striker leading the line for the Three Lions was a sight familiar to the country for quite a while; however, that stopped when Harry Kane pursued challenges in Germany. That being said, England are set to again have a Spurs striker leading them to goals and more as Dominic Solanke finds a place in Lee Carsley’s squad for the international break.
Tottenham striker returns to international stage
England are set to face Greece (10 October) and Finland (13 October) in Europa Nations League fixtures, and Solanke will be a presence in the English camp for the next fortnight.
To put things into perspective, this is the 27-year-old’s first Three Lions call-up in seven years; however, we will see if that would add caps to his tally or not.
While Solanke has been called up, many supporters have gotten into a debate around it.
Dominic Solanke earns England call-up despite struggles
The striker moved to White Hart Lane from Bournemouth in the summer and has struggled to find his rhythm for his new employers. The goals did start flowing off late; however, you could argue if other players were more deserving of the call-up, Spurs midfielder James Maddison being inexperienced of those alongside Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

Former Tottenham head scout Bryan King also expressed his surprise over Dominic Solanke’s call-up, as he, as many other English fans, doesn’t feel it was deserved. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:
“My reaction to the decision was one of surprise. To be honest, I couldn’t really work it out. He cost a lot of money and scored some goals. However, they weren’t exactly spectacular goals, and his work has been nothing spectacular either. Obviously, Carsley has seen something that I haven’t seen. We have to assume that he knows him from Bournemouth. Playing Greece and Finland, they aren’t exactly the biggest nations in the world either.”

The call-up will be a big mental boost for Solanke, and Tottenham supporters would be hoping to reap dividends of that confidence thrust in the games after the international break.
