Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first defeat for a while as Brighton broke the Lilywhites five-game winning streak in one of the most humiliating ways, and former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov has branded his former club ‘too nice’ after Spurs’ Sunday collapse against the Seagulls.
The North Londoners had the game in their pockets for the first half when they scored twice inside the first 37 minutes to get a 2-0 lead as Brennan Johnson and James Maddison gave Spurs a cushion going into halftime.
But that second half was one to forget for Ange Postecoglou’s side as they went on to concede three goals in the space of about twenty minutes as they fell into a 3-2 defeat, and as a result, Tottenham are now the first team to lose 10 games in Premier League history after taking a two-goal lead.
Berbatov slams Tottenham for lack of frit after Brighton collapse
While Greek-born Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou stated that his players got ‘carried away’ for their half-time lead, Berbatov went on to state that this is typical Tottenham behaviour, as he called them ‘too nice.’

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, the former Tottenham ace said:
“This type of stuff happened to Spurs before and continues to happen. They have a couple of good games but then it all comes crashing down because of results like that or something else. This is where they need to be mentally strong [after conceding the first goal], weather the storm, but it didn’t happen for Spurs. If you don’t have consistency in your performances to stay at the top you are going to suffer. Spurs are too nice.”
Ange Postecoglou and his players will now have a fortnight to reflect on the defeat, and particularly on the manner of the defeat as we head into international break.
