Tottenham Hotspur endured a difficult away day in the Premier League preceding the international break as Ange Postecoglou’s side tasted an embarrassing defeat against Brighton on Sunday.
It looked like the Lilywhites are arming through the fixture after taking up a 2-0 lead quite early into the game, thanks to goals by Brennan Johnson and James Maddison, with the former scoring for his sixth consecutive game.
While the Welshman had inspired Spurs to a win in the previous five, he couldn’t do so against the Seagulls yesterday.
Speaking particularly about the first half per se, the visitors registered six shots while denying Brighton a single shot on target—it was one of the better halves that Spurs had played off late; however, what followed in the second half was one of the most humiliating collapses in recent history.
Suddenly Tottenham couldn’t find time on the ball, and Brighton were playing all chips staked as Ange Postecoglou’s side conceded three times in about twenty minutes as Brighton secured a 3-2 win.
Les Ferdinand tongue-tied after Spurs’ shocking defeat
Former Spurs striker Les Ferdinand refused to say the word ‘spursy’ after the game as the Seagulls got back from behind to secure the win and Tottenham ‘bottled’ the lead. Les, speaking via. Sky Sports after the game, said:
“People will say they’ve gone back to what Spurs are – I’m not going to say the word.”
To put it into context, Tottenham have become the first club to lose a game after a two-nil lead for the tenth time via. Opta; however, Opta did choose to go on with the word. Former Lilywhites striker Les Ferdinand refused to say the word ‘Spursy’ unlike Les.
