Brennan Johnson’s decision to step away from social media, following a suggestion from Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, has earned strong praise from Wales boss Craig Bellamy.
After facing online abuse during a five-game goal drought, Johnson turned his form around by disconnecting from social media and has since scored in five consecutive matches for Tottenham. Bellamy believes Johnson’s value has skyrocketed, estimating him now at £80 million, nearly double what Spurs paid Nottingham Forest for him just over a year ago.
Johnson and Ronaldo
The 23-year-old Irishman, earning £70,000 per week, is poised to score his sixth goal continuing his PL streak today against Brighton. He’s been highly impressive for Spurs.
As Brennan Johnson looks to extend his goal streak to six in six against Brighton on Sunday, Spurs have playfully compared him to Brazilian legend Ronaldo, posting an image of Johnson’s face on Ronaldo’s body after his Europa League goal against Ferencvaros.
Johnson’s resurgence followed advice from manager Ange Postecoglou to step away from social media, which had become a source of abuse during a previous five-game drought. Wales boss Craig Bellamy supports Johnson’s decision, stating that while he leaves social media choices to his players, Johnson’s move to not engage with social media was the right one.
“Brennan is still young, but I see a humble kid with good morals who was brought up by good parents in a brilliant family structure. We are now seeing what a talent he really is.”
“He’s a great character who is so easy to coach. He loves the group and the group loves him. He has all the traits of a really top class player,”

Johnson’s all-round contribution under Postecoglou has impressed Bellamy more than his goalscoring. Bellamy praised Johnson for his team-first mentality and relentless work rate, noting that despite Spurs’ heavy investment, it’s his selflessness and commitment to the team that stands out most.
