Tottenham Hotspur are coming off a humiliating defeat against Brighton last weekend, and multiple players have been highlighted for their deficiencies in the display at American Express Stadium, but there is one standout among them in Timo Werner.
The German international has been subject to massive criticism following the fixture against Seagulls. While he is potent with using his pace and power with the ball at his feet, his inability to deliver clinical output has cost Spurs dearly.
Forced change
The North Londoners have been without three forwards in Heung-min Son, Richarlison, and Wilson Odobert, and this forced Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou to start the RB Leipzig loanee, who has failed to make the most of the opportunities coming his way in the final third.

And joining the line of pundits criticising Werner, former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has lashed into £165,000 per week wide forward for his poor display against Brighton and has backed Spurs coach to drop the player in the upcoming London Derby against West Ham. Craig believes he has seen enough from Werner to conclude that the 28-year-old doesn’t have what it takes to succeed in the English top tier.
Burley calls for Werner to be dropped
The pundit went on to suggest that Tottenham Academy graduate Moore offers more than Werner.
Speaking to ESPN UK:
“And again, I don’t want to sort of pick on him, but I am going to. I mean, Timo Werner. Timo Werner whatever he did in Germany, he has been unable to do in two spells in England.
“His end product was once again atrocious, and that adds to the pressure that goes on a team defensively when you are just not finishing teams off.
“It wasn’t just Timo Werner, but if he starts the next game after the international break, I will be very surprised.
“A young 17-year-old in Moore is probably going to come in his place. Brennan Johnson has come through a tough time when people were talking about his end product. He gets six goals in six.”

Son would be expected to be fit against the Hammers following the international break, which gives a natural change for the skipper to come in for Werner.
