Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker thinks that the North Londoners poor performance against Brighton and Hove Albion came owing to the absence of South Korean skipper Heung-min Son.
The Lilywhites were enjoying an incredible run of a five-game winning streak going into the game against the Seagulls, and the expectations were that Ange Postecoglou‘s side would not find trouble to take that tally to six at American Express Stadium. However, Spurs rather suffered a 3-2 defeat against Fabian Hürzeler’s side.
It ended up being a game of two halves as Spurs gained control of the game in the first with two goals from Brennan Johnson and Madison going into halftime; however, the hosts came with renewed hope in the second to triumph with three goals and ultimately with three points to complete a memorable comeback.
Lineker blames Son absence for Tottenham loss
And while Ange’s side conceded three goals in the space of twenty minutes, Gary Lineker points fingers at the fact that Heung-min Son was not playing part in the fixture. Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, he acknowledged Werner’s pace and presence but insisted how Son’s clinical output could come in more handy.
Lineker said:
“We have to remember as well that Spurs are missing quite possibly their best player, Heung-min Son. He is a big miss to them, isn’t he? I mean, Werner gives them a lot of pace, but his final product is not that of a certain Son.”
In retrospect, the German did waste a lot of chances coming his way in the past couple of games, and his final product has often been a point of contention for fans and pundits alike.
