Napoli advised against signing 22-year-old Tottenham defender

published :

Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin has been struggling to accumulate consistent playing time at White Hart Lane, and such frustrations have been seeding rumours of a potential move away from Hotspur Way as the Romanian international looks to get some minutes under his belt.

The Lilywhites signed the 22-year-old from Genoa in January this year; however, he has been reduced to a bits-and-parts role owing to the dominance of Romero and Micky van de Ven in his position. And former Spurs manager Antonio Conte has been looking to raid the North Londoners for Radu Dragusin.

Napoli have been spending a significant fee since Conte took over the reins at the Naples-based side. They have forked out €150 million on transfers after the Italians took over as they brought in the likes of Scott McTominay, Romelu Lukaku, Billy Gilmour, and David Neres, to name a few. And the Serie A giants have been planning their January acquisition already with their hearts set on the Spurs defender, who is one of the names being considered at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Is Dragusin being wasted at Tottenham?

Despite all the potential Radu has, Italian journalist Enrico Fedele has advised Napoli against signing the 22-year-old and suggested the club rather make a move for former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, who is not only available on a free transfer but has much more experience and value than Radu.

Speaking on the Marte Sport Live programme (via Area Napoli), Fedele said:

“Would I think about Radu Dragusin, who plays little at Tottenham? Too young, I would go for someone experienced. Who? It’s a former Real Madrid: Sergio Ramos. Hasn’t played for months? He would come to bring his character traits; he would do like Burgnich of the past. In Napoli I don’t see charismatic players, like Reina and Albiol could have been in the past, for example.”

Radu Dragusin’s talent is surely unquestionable; however, Spurs will need to start giving him minutes if they are to realise his potential and keep him at the club for a long time.
