Tottenham Hotspur supporters would be still recovering from the weekend’s humiliation against Brighton as the Seagulls break the Lilywhites five-game winning streak and in what manner. It was a game of two halves at American Express Stadium; the first one was controlled by the visitors as they took a 2-0 lead going into halftime, although the hosts came all guns blazing in the leading half as they went on to score three goals in some twenty minutes to secure a memorable comeback.
Ample of pressure has surmounted on Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou following the conclusion of the fixture, not for the defeat but rather for the manner.
Ange philosophy questioned after Brighton loss
Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney acknowledged that the Lilywhites have done this for a ‘few games’ under the Greek-born tactician. He pointed out how Spurs went on to perform disastorously in the second half of the opening week game against Leicester City at King Power.
Ange wants to continue to play attacking brand of football, and that is what Rooney pointed out while comparing the former Celtic coach to former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, who ended up being appointed at Bayern Munich despite getting the Clarets relegated. He claims that both the managers are akin in the sense that they would stick to their ways and won’t change despite the situations.
-> Tottenham ‘agreement’ touted as reason for difference-making star’s absence vs Brighton
Speaking on the Overlap, the United legend said:
“The way he (Postecoglou) is, Vincent Kompany was the same. He wants to play in a certain way and then you’re not picking up results.
“But I think Ange as well, sometimes, they are winning 2-0, just come in a little bit, try to be harder to score against, to be harder to give chances up and they maybe come away and win that game. You have to adapt. You have to change. If you are 2-0 down at half-time, you know Brighton are going to come out with something different. They have to! You have to be ready for that. You have to adapt. You have to be ready to change and you might go back to a back five towards the end of the game if you are winning.”
Tottenham and Ange would be looking to get back to winning ways when the Premier League resumes from the international break, and there will be clear pressure on the squad to address the defensive frailties.
