Tottenham Hotspur have injury concerns aplenty at Hotspur Way at the moment, and the addition of Lilywhites skipper Son Heung-Min has been the latest concern to ponder for the Spurs faithful. The South Korean not only brings stability but also his presence helps the North Londoners in multiple areas on the pitch.

The South Korean has been a missing figure in the Lilywhites matchday squad since the club’s 3-0 win over Qarabag FC in the Europa League on September 26th. And he has been in the injury room with a probable thigh problem that he suffered in the aforementioned fixture. And the 32-year-old was forced to opt out of his international duties to continue his rehabilitation at Hotspur Way.

Spurs hopeful Son will return for West Ham

John Wenham, the owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, thinks that the club came to a pre-agreement with South Korea over his recent injury concerns, which forced him to miss out on playing for the Taegeuk Warriors in the ongoing international break. Wenham thinks that Son’s absence against Brighton would have been part of the agreement that led him to miss the October international break.

The Lilywhites skipper was not among the squad in the 3-2 humiliation against Brighton last weekend, and Wenham acknowledges how the 32-year-old would have been forced to go to international duty if he had played against the Seagulls. Wenham also expresses hopefulness about his availability when Spurs resume Premier League duties against West Ham.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“On a larger scale, I think there was probably an agreement between Tottenham and South Korea over Son. I imagine the agreement was that if he didn’t play for Spurs against Brighton then he would miss the South Korea games as well.

“If he had played at Brighton, I imagine he would have been expected to feature for South Korea. He is getting that bit older now. Therefore, Tottenham probably saw it as a better solution for him to rest and recover at Hotspur Way over the next couple of weeks.

“Hopefully, we then get a fit and firing Son ready to go against West Ham.”

Ange Postecoglou did say that Son was “close” to being in contention to face Brighton, so positively he should be back when Spurs host the Hammers at White Hart Lane.
