Guglielmo Vicario definitely makes for an interesting subject of debate at the moment.
Well over a year into his Tottenham career, while his strong points are apparent, fans and pundits still puzzle over whether his overall game is good enough to help the Lilywhites reach where they want to in the long term.
That said, it doesn’t look like Vicario would remain in North London forever, regardless of what he says.
Guglielmo Vicario “only thinking about” Tottenham amid exit rumours
As reported by Sport Witness, Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is “only thinking about” the North London club, as communicated by Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
Vicario’s stock has unquestionably risen since his move to Hotspur Way last summer from Empoli for €20 million. While he is the undisputed No.1 choice of Ange Postecoglou, his form and temperament have been called into question every now and then.
That has not stopped outside interest in the Italy international, however, as reports have been linking him with a move back to Italy in recent months, with the two Milan clubs being linked most prominently with him.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €35 million, Vicario has in place at Spurs a £75k-per-week contract set to run until June 2028, allowing Spurs a fair bit of room to play hardball.
Tottenham should not think only about Vicario
Vicario is a stylistic fit for Tottenham at the moment, but given the uncertainty over Ange Postecoglou’s future, as well as the issues that continue surrounding Vicario himself, it’s safe to say Spurs should keep their options open and be in the market for another goalkeeper.
Behind a more coherent defence, it is not unreasonable to say Vicario would fare better, and in time would be able to develop his strengths to the point that his weaknesses would become tolerable, but that cannot be the case under Postecoglou and his crash-bang defence.
Goalkeepers tend to have relatively longer career than their outfield counterparts, so we can assume Vicario has at least a decade of football in him. Spurs will undoubtedly end up making a profit off his sale, granted they don’t let perceptions worsen too much.
