Former Tottenham Hotspur scout Bryan King unconvinced by Luka Vuskovic
Tottenham Hotspur are bound to have a bright young addition in the heart of their backline next summer with Luka Vuskovic bound to arrive at the club.
The young central defender, currently owned by Croatian outfit Hajduk Split, is spending a year on loan with Belgian side Westerlo before heading to his new employer in 2025.
He will have to deal with great expectation from the word go at the club as there has already been a lot of hype created around his impeding arrival.
However, former Tottenham scout Bryan King believes he will not have a rosey path to glory at Hotspur Way and will struggle for minutes under Ange Postecoglou. He was quoted saying the following in an exclusive interaction with Tottenham Hotspur News:
“At this moment in time there are two centre-backs in front of him. We’re talking about two very experienced centre-backs. Where and when is his chance going to come? He is playing in Belgium with a mid-table team. It is a good steppingstone, that has been proven in the past. However, it would take a lot for him to start at Tottenham because there are some very talented defenders already at the club.”
It goes without saying that Vuskovic will not be a starter at Tottenham in his initial days as the honour currently belongs to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, while Radu Dragusin will also be significantly ahead of the Balkan teenager in the pecking order.
However, it must be kept in mind that Ange Postecoglou usually trusts the youngsters and does a lot of hard work in improving them. The Australian’s attribute of not shying away from handing minutes to teenagers has been visible with the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Begvall this season too.
Tottenham are also extremely pleased with Vuskovic’s development and given that this season they only have three central defenders to call upon, it is unlikely that the 17-year-old will be allowed to leave on loan to play regularly elsewhere and might be in the thick of the action early in his career.
