Mikey Moore tipped to compete with Son Heung-min next year
Mikey Moore is progressing with his career at Tottenham Hotspur at an impressive pace. He has started to play a part on various occasions in Ange Postecoglou’s squad this season and having made five appearances in all competitions so far in the campaign, including one start, the 17-year-old is already shouldering the weight of expectations from a massive fanbase.
Postecoglou has ensured that Moore joins fellow teenagers, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, in receiving the chance to feature in the first team when an opportunity presents and develop under his watchful eyes as opposed to being sent out to a lower division side on loan. The Australian’s approach is unique in its own way but remains very much capable of producing good results.
Tottenham Hotspur author John Wenham believes the club’s idea with Moore is to develop him for a concrete role in the first team from next year onwards to compete with Heung-min Son, who will turn 33 and is more towards the end of his career than the start. Moore, being a boyhood product from Tottenham’s academy, will be entrusted on priority to replace the South Korean.
Wenham was quoted saying the following:
“Moore already has a full 90 minutes under his belt in the UEFA Europa League this season.Tottenham have played 10 games and Moore has featured in half of those. He has made fantastic progress.You can see that the club are earmarking him for a permanent first-team role next season. I suspect he will be battling it out with Son to be the starting left-winger next year.”
Moore has provided a good account of himself in the limited minutes he has had so far in 2024/25 but at least in the pecking order that has prevailed in the 10 official matches Tottenham have played this season, Timo Werner has been preferred on the left flank when Heung-min Son has not been available.

Moore bursting onto the scene possibly means that Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig is now unlikely to be made into a permanent move at the end of the season. And although the Spurs prodigy will not be a starter ahead of Son for the foreseeable future, he will start training more often with the first team and be the captain’s direct understudy.
