Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin has been dealt with tricky cards since he moved to White Hart Lane last winter. Much was expected out of the Romanian international when he rejected a move to Bayern Munich to move to White Hart Lane. However, he has found minutes hard to come by owing to the dominance of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at the heart of the defence, and Dragusin has been reduced to playing a bits-and-parts role.
The 22-year-old has a strong European Championship along the way, and many Spurs faithful expected that to be his window to get into Ange Postecoglou‘s side. But that has not been the case, and many speculate that the player will look to move on from Tottenham to find regular playing time under his belt and take strides in his development.
There have also been suggestions going in Italian media pointing towards a probable Serie A return for the Romanian (via. InterLive). However, such reports have recently been dismissed by Radu’s agent, Florina Manea, who suggests that his client is focused on Tottenham and doing his best for the Premier League heavyweights.
Dragusin focused on staying
He was quizzed whether the reports suggesting Napoli getting in touch for a probable transfer are true, to which he replied (via. Sport pe Surse):
-> Former Spurs scout suggests Tottenham target will leave his current employers
“No, no. It is normal for Napoli to have him on the list. He is a footballer who played well in Italy. I don’t think that Tottenham will part with Radu, even in the current situation, where he is not a starter.
“Apart from Romero and Van de Ven, they have no one [at centre-half]. I think that Radu will get more chances this year. And, if he plays 20 to 25 matches this season, I’m satisfied. We even talked after that moment in the Europa League when he saw red. He told me: ‘I’m learning, I’m putting it behind me and we’re moving forward’.
“I think that, at this big level, the mentality is the most important. You have to fight and overcome the moments. In football, you live from one week to the next.”
Romero and Van de Ven are integral to the side; however, Ange Postecoglou would be aware that he has to manage their minutes, and that is Radu’s opportunity to cement his place in the side.
