Ange Postecoglou is many things—like him or not, you cannot ignore the man from Down Under.
Having recently been on a media spree, the 59-year-old has been addressing all sorts of topics, including how he managed his emotions in an ecosystem that scarcely offers time and space for them.
Ange Postecoglou talks about the difficulties of balancing emotions as Tottenham manager
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of his side’s Premier League game against West Ham, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou discussed, among other things, how he maintained his composure in the cutthroat environment of the sport.
“I have my moments like everyone else, all human beings. I think it would be unnatural not to.
“Sometimes you think it’s predetermined, you go, ‘You know what, I do have to go off here just to make an impact.’ I’m a pretty good actor in that, because I think you’ll find if you spoke to me five minutes later, I’m back down to earth. Other times you do get emotional around, because it’s an emotional game, and it’s what I love about the game.”
Recently, the Australian coach also said that he would let his players know exactly what he thought of their comeback defeat against Brighton the week before last, having not had the chance to do so because of the international break.
Spurs return to Premier League action on Saturday as they welcome West Ham at home for a local London affair.
Part of the game
Working with emotions is part of the game, as is choosing when to show your true feelings to the dressing room and when not to.
And it becomes trickier to work in modern-day football when you rarely have a moment and space to yourself, what with all the cameras monitoring you at all times.
Postecoglou may be rigid in his footballing ideals, but he has demonstrated himself to be adept at not only working with his own emotions, but also with those of the people around him.
