Alasdair Gold breaks down Tottenham’s "horrible second-half performance" against Brighton

Tottenham’s defence has been called into question after their mixed start to the season.

Things have also become trickier with both their first-choice centre-backs being linked with moves away from North London.

And right on cue, links are emerging linking them with a reputable centre-back.

Jonathan Tah still attracting outside interest, Tottenham in the mix

Jonathan Tah still attracting outside interest, Tottenham in the mix

As reported by BILD, Bayer Leverkusen captain and defender Jonathan Tah continues attracting interest from outside the club and Tottenham are one of the sides monitoring his situation.

The 28-year-old, a veteran of 280 Bundesliga games, was the linchpin of Leverkusen’s title charge from the back as he helped them to a historic league win while also lifting the DFB-Pokal last season.

Tah has started this season in fine fashion as well, having made ten appearances across all competitions and scored one goal.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €30 million, the Germany international is in the final year of his €2.83m-per-year Bayer contract, making a development in his situation imminent.

Apart from Spurs, Tah is also attracting the eyes of Man United and Liverpool in England, while both Real Madrid and Barcelona are looking at him from Spain, with Serie A champions Inter Milan also keeping an eye out. Bayern Munich, as always, are keen on him as well.

The time is right

Tah is in his prime years, has demonstrated himself as a capable operator and leader at the back in a title-winning team in a top-five European league, and has his contract running out in the summer; he has all the makings of a bargain pick-up for many a team in Europe looking for a mid-to-long-term solution for their defence.

Of course, amid interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern, and Barça, it is highly unlikely Spurs will get the upper hand in this tussle for his signature.

That said, you never know with the Premier League money these days, especially with Spurs ostensibly due for a financial injection.
